Friends of Scouting Kick-Off Dinner
The 2010 Friends of Scouting Kick-Off Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, at the Disneyland Hotel. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature a speech by record setting Kansas City Chiefs/LA Raiders running back Marcus Allen.
Marcus Allen is a Heisman Trophy winner and set 12 NCAA records at USC. In 1982, he was drafted by the Oakland Raiders and was named Rookie of the Year. In 1984, Marcus won the Super Bowl XVIII MVP award. He joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 1993 and was named MVP for them in 1993 and 1995. Marcus has been selected All-Pro six times, and voted the Super Bowl's most valuable player, the Kansas City Chiefs' most valuable player and The Sporting News NFL player of the year. While with the Chiefs, Marcus became the first NFL player to gain more than 10,000 yards rushing and 5,000 yards receiving.
From his days as the 1981 Heisman Trophy winner to today as the NFL's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, he has caught more passes, played more games, and gained more yardage than any other running back in NFL history. Besides his great football successes, Marcus, with his wife Kathryn, serves as spokesman for Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. Marcus has been honored with the 1994 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Magic Johnson Sports Star Banquet, and is actively involved with All-Stars Helping Kids, a California charity which benefits Bay Area youth organizations.
Each year the Friends of Scouting kick-off dinner helps launch the Friends of Scouting Campaign which helps support the programs of the Orange County Council.
