Scout-O-Rama, May 14, 2011, 9am - 4pm!!
What the heck is Scout-O-Rama .... read on my friends ....
Scout-O-Rama is the annual trade show of Scouting in Orange County that is attended by over 30,000 people.
Scouts and their families enjoy a fun-filled day of exhibits, competitions, skits and displays. Some popular events from recent years include Dutch-oven cooking demonstrations, rock wall climbing, canoe races, water rocket launches and BMX bicycle shows. Local packs, troops, teams and crews can participate in the Scout-O-Rama event by displaying a booth, or giving service hours.
The 2010 Scout-O-Rama is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th, 9am - 4pm!!
The event will be held at Oak Canyon Regional Park (5305 Santiago Canyon Drive, Silverado, CA 92676 ... approximately 9 miles east of the 55 Fwy, take the Chapman Ave off ramp).
With more than 350,000 square feet of grass area for unit booths, a fishing and canoe lake, eating and stage facilities and well over 5,000 parking spaces there should be ample room to adequately accommodate our OC Scouting family. It’s a beautiful, natural setting with lots of full grown shade trees. Oh, and yes, it has enough real estate for Commander Chuck Street to land his famous eye in the sky helicopter.
Pack 717 participates with a booth manned by our boys.
Other Packs and Troops have booths in which our scouts can earn arrow points and complete belt loops and pins. It is mostly free and the lines are considerably shorter than the lines at the Happiest Place on Earth. There isn’t a boy in the Pack who won’t find something new and exciting to try and have a good time to boot.
If you and your Cub would like to man the Pack 717 booth for an hour, please contact your Den Leader.
Along with the booth, the Pack sells coupon books, with the family Scout-O-Rama admission ticket attached.
This year’s ticket booklet will have more coupons and bigger deals, and Scout units will be able to double their commission. Commissions from the book sale go to support the activities, advancements, and programs of local units and the Orange County Council.
Why and How do we sell Tickets ?
Our Council has provided us with another opportunity to raise money for our Pack, to help fund events like camping trips, graduation ceremonies, bowling and rock climbing, ocean fishing adventures, Coto's 4th of July parade, and many other wonderful activities in which our Cubs participate.
In the past, parents have taken tickets to work to sell, and boys/parents have combed their neighborhoods to extract every possible sale. However, the largest sales success has taken place in front of the Ralph's store next to Rancho Santa Margarita Lake. A Den Leader contacts that store manager to arrange a date/time to sell in front of their store.
This could be a great activity for several Dens, to create a posterboard size display, highlighting the coupons offered in the booklet along with den activity pictures, placed on an easel, right outside Ralph's store entrance. Sprinkled with several adorable Cub Scouts in Class A uniform, and you've got yourself a fundraiser that's sure to be a lot of fun !
