Scouting for Food Week, November 7 - 14, 2009
Scouting for Food is a service project sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council and the Girl Scout Council of Orange County.
Scouting for Food benefits benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and more than 400,000 Orange County residents at risk of going hungry every month. Items donated during “Scouting For Food Week” will be delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank, which distributes nutritious food to more than 400 agencies serving Orange County’s needy. Food items most needed: Canned Meats, Canned Fish, Beef Stew, Chili, Canned Fruits & Vegetables, Canned Juices, Soups, Pasta, Hot & Cold Cereals, Macaroni & Cheese, Rice, Beans, Peanut butter. Personal care items most needed: Diapers, Toothpaste & Toothbrushes, Deodorant, Toilet Tissue, Razors, Q-tips, Soap, Band-Aids, Combs & Brushes, and Feminine Hygiene Items.
All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and their units organize food drives in their community, at their school or church and collect food from their neighbors. Scouts are encouraged to fill five grocery bags full. Items may be collected at any time during Scouting for Food Week, November 7th - 14th, and outside Albertson’s stores on Collection Day, Saturday, November 14th.
NOTE: All food must be delivered to a drop-off site between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Collection Day, November 14th! Pack 717 drop off location is at Albertson's, 21672 Plano Trabuco Road, Trabuco Canyon, 92679. It is helpful for each Den Leader to assign one den parent/family to coordinate the collected items from each family in your den, and then make one delivery on the 14th. A den family who is not going to Rocket Launch is preferred.
In summary, there are a few ways your Cub can be a part of Scouting for Food:
Collect items from family, friends, and neighbors. All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are encouraged to collect five bags full of food. All food collected must be delivered to a drop-off site on Collection Day, November 14.
